The Untamed Wilderness Awaits

BOTSWANA

Botswana Photo Tours
An introduction to Botswana

In the remote wilderness of Botswana lies Mashatu—the legendary “Land of Giants”—where vast landscapes and iconic wildlife converge. As part of your Botswana photographic safari, this extraordinary region offers a rare chance to shoot from underground hides, designed to bring you eye-level with the animals. These sunken vantage points create unparalleled opportunities to photograph elephants, big cats, and other wildlife as they approach waterholes to drink, interact, and hunt—just meters away from your lens. The result is a dynamic, intimate perspective few photographers ever experience.

  • Highlights

    Underground Photography at Mashatu

    Chobe River by boat

    Biodiversity of the Okavango Delta

    Makadikadi Pans

  • Seasonality & Festivals

November to March is generally the best time for tours in Benin, as the weather is cooler, drier, and more predictable, making it ideal for outdoor activities and photography. The annual Voodoo Festival happens on 10 January each year. The FROST team is privy to 'insider' information about special pre- and post-festival celebrations.

April-May can still be good for photography, but the heat can be challenging.

May to October offers a different experience with lush landscapes, but the rain can disrupt travel plans.

Festivals & Events: Voodoo Festival and Gaani Festival. Contact the FROST team for more details on festivals.

The Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is one of Botswana’s most captivating wetlands, where every twist and turn reveals a new opportunity to capture the wild beauty of the landscape. On a Botswana photographic safari, you’ll witness elephants wading through the water, their majestic reflections shimmering beneath them. Above, vibrant birdlife flits between branches, adding to the scene’s dynamic energy. Whether photographing the delicate balance between predator and prey or capturing the serene expanse of untouched wilderness, the Okavango Delta offers an unforgettable photographic adventure at every turn.

Botswana Highlights
Makgadikgadi Pans

As one of the largest salt flats in the world, the Makgadikgadi Pans offers an otherworldly landscape that seems to stretch endlessly into the horizon. On a Botswana photographic safari, you’ll witness this vast, white expanse punctuated by ancient baobab trees and seasonal wildlife migrations. During the rainy season, the pans come alive with thousands of zebras and wildebeests crossing the flats, followed closely by predators like lions and cheetahs. The pan is also home to enigmatic meerkats, often standing sentinel over their burrows, and flocks of flamingos that gather at ephemeral waters—perfect subjects for your lens.
