Arrival in Addis Ababa, where you will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Depending on arrival time and energy levels, we will settle in and prepare for the journey ahead. This is a short overnight stop before heading north to Gondar for the Timket celebrations.
This morning we take a short flight to Gondar, the historic heart of Ethiopia’s Timket celebrations. Your Ethiopia Timket Photo Tour officially begins! In the afternoon, we head out to photograph the eve of Timket, where priests, processions, and vibrant crowds begin to gather. The atmosphere builds steadily, offering excellent opportunities to capture colour, movement, and anticipation as the festival unfolds.
Today is the main day of Timket, one of Ethiopia’s most visually striking cultural events. We will spend the morning photographing the ceremonies at Fasilides Bath, where large crowds, priests, and sacred rituals create powerful photographic moments. It's here where you'll photograph scenes of hundreds of people jump into the holy water. In the afternoon, we explore Gondar further, visiting the Royal Enclosure and Debre Birhan Selassie, known for its iconic painted ceiling and rich history.
This morning on your Ethiopia photography tour we attend locations for more private documentary photography (a wonderful authentic local Timket experience). We also photograph the St. Michael festival, a continuation of the Timket celebrations with a slightly more relaxed but still vibrant atmosphere. This offers excellent opportunities to photograph priests, processions, and interactions with greater ease. The remainder of the day allows for continued exploration and photography within Gondar as the festive energy carries on.
We begin the day photographing a selection of Gondar’s churches and quieter moments of daily life, focusing on portraits, details, and more considered compositions. Later in the day, we transfer to the airport for our return flight to Addis Ababa. On arrival, we check in for an overnight stay and have time to relax or reflect on your FROST Photo Tour experience.
Today we transfer to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your onward international departure where you Timket Festival Tour sadly comes to an end. Depending on flight timing, there may be time to relax at the hotel before the transfer. This marks the end of your Ethiopia photography tour.
